Tight Quarters
Big Brother will be watching every move contestants make as they try to survive two weeks of living in a shop at The Potteries Shopping Centre
They won’t need to turn into Tarzan or Jane to win immunity,
but the participants in The Potteries’ Living in a Box contest will
require creativity and stamina to survive the game. Launched on 23rd October in
the UK centre, Living in a Box is a two-week contest in which nine
residents from Staffordshire and Cheshire agreed to live in a shop unit at The
Potteries and carry out daily challenges in a battle to win a Peugeot 107 Sport,
courtesy of Greenhous automobile dealer.
The shop unit has been kitted out, but it has no furniture or luxuries for the
contestants. They’ll need to successfully complete their challenges to win
treats, meals and immunity from eviction—in the second week, one contestant will
be eliminated daily at 1:15pm sharp.
Contest partner Signal 1 radio will perform four-hour live broadcasts from the
shop unit every day and its listeners will decide who stays and who goes.
"We are very excited by this new event and we are not aware of it having been
run in any other shopping centre," said Sandrine Eglizeaud, marketing manager.
"We hope we can win another Purple Apple Award," she added, referring to the
award the centre received from BCSC in 2003 for its Week of Wheels scheme.
Two of the Living in a Box contestants were eliminated even before they
made it into the shop unit. The seven remaining ones, all of whom survived the
first two challenges sponsored by The Bed Shed, can be seen on Signal 1’s
Website, which also features a photo gallery, box blog (under development), box
cam and links to the sites of event sponsors Greenhous and Big Brother Systems,
a digital surveillance equipment provider.
Living in a Box will wrap up on 5th November.
